8/17 Lessons in MB for Margarette and Matthew

Yesterday was a lot of fun getting Margaret and Matthew out there riding waves for three hours with a couple of breaks in between. These kids are naturals and could get up on every nearly wave that I got them angled on as long as the nose was staying above water. Their mom Karen and Tricia from work had a great time watching the kids learn and play and ride dozens of waves time after time. Another successful time getting some kids out there! I always enjoy spreading this sport to anyone who wants to learn!

Mission Beach Beginner Lessons on 8/25/05

Took out Margaret and Matthew on my 7'8" and my 9'0". those kids just needed a little push and there they were flying down the line of the wave perfect stanced for the most part all the way to the sand...It sure does pay to weight 50 pounds or less! they were both screaming and yelling and having an amazing time. Truly a lot of fun for me to see and always a reminder that it pays to be a little kid when learning something! So much quicker to pick up!

15th St. Del Mar 08/20/05 Surf Lessons/Coaching

I gave Miren some advanced coaching on back and frontside cutbacks as well as duckdiving and here's her response:

"I also wanted to say SUPER THANKS for the duck diving technique cause I got it down 90% of the time. It helps so much and I don't really have a problem paddling out anymore!
Till next time,
Miren"

Glad to have yet another satisfied student!

New Softboard for smaller students

Picked up a pretty beat up used 7'8" today. Hard top and bottom but spongy rails all the way around. Should be excellent for teaching kids who want to learn to surf. So far I've got the 9 foot Surface and this board for teaching. For advanced lessons surfers primarily provide their own boards but I will provide a fiberglass shape from a shortboard, fish, mini-gun, or longboard if needed. Teaching surfing has been a lot of fun. Hopefully it will continue on into the fall.

Mission Beach Surf Lessons sunday 8/22/05

Gave Carrie the dogwalker a lesson and although it was a bit chilly I got her standing up and doing well! She got a bit cold so we'll resume that lesson later! Also, got Jim from work to be able to stand up well enough to turn and get some longer waves in! Success!

E-mail from Carrie:

"hey drew
I had a great time!! Im trying to get a wet suit so I can join you guys this week some time. I'll keep you posted! thanks for all your time!

Phelps Family Photo

This isn't a recent picture but my family rules sitting on the beach while I give lessons...Riley didn't smile much for this one...Evan thought something was funny and my fake smile started to hurt after a while having the photographer try to get the kids to smile or laugh, or just not frown! Drewcifer's Family: From left to Right it's Cheryl, Evan, Drewcifer, and Riley.
