Scripps Surf 2/21/2007

Surfed with Max today at Scripps Pier. Mark Painting (the South African) decided against it and had to get to work. Max and I were skeptical it was above waist high but wanted to surf. It ended up being waist to chest high with some great glassy peaks. It was crowded, but there were some really fun peaks to take off on. I really had a good surf. We're going again tomorrow. Pictures below.

Setting up for a little barrel. This one looks a bit funny but at least they got a good shot afterwards.

A little bit of tube time. I made it out sort of at the end of this but it was fun while I was in it for a bit. Very fun session.

Mower and Sprung Monkey Show

Went to Saska's with Cheryl for an after Valentines Day dinner and then to the Mower and Sprung Monkey Show at Canes in Mission Beach. Mower is a heavier band than Sprung Monkey. The bass player is a guy named Chris McCredie that used to live near Sebastian Inlet and I went to Melbourne High School with. It's a small world catching back up with him out this way.

This pic is from the Mower website. This is one of the two lead singers they have.

Cheryl's not a big fan of the type of music I listen to but she was a good sport and had a few glasses of wine and just enjoyed the evening. Sprung Monkey is one of my favorite So Cal bands from the 90's so I had a really good time. We hungout with some of my friend Mike's group and they were a little crazier than I'm used to hanging out with..they were tatooed pretty much all over their arms (the guys anyway) and were in my age range yet went out in the pit and took a beating from the drunken big skinhead wannabe types. I'll stick to the side and enjoy the show and not risk an injured limb!

Riley's Valentines Day Party at School

I took a long lunch today and went to see Riley and Evan at Riley's school for Valentines Day. They had lots of junk food and the kids were all playing outside. Riley was having a blast in her walker, Evan in this little stand alone wobbly airplane thing he was playing on.

Snow-Valley 2/11/2007

Bill Robson and I went up to Snow Valley thinking it may snow on Sunday. It rained all morning, mostly drizzle. It was in the 40's and pretty windy. Despite the rainy conditions the snow (mostly manmade) ended up holding up and there were plenty of groomed areas and little embankments to hit and carve where most people wouldn't go near. It seems most people just stay in the middle of the runs but it's more chopped up there than anywhere else. I would have taken pictures but the camera got wet so I had to put it back in the car.

After eating lunch the sun came out and it really got nice out. Had several more runs and I thought I'd try some of the top thin trails off the beaten path. Well that was a bad idea considering these trails sometimes were about 2 feet wide. After some success I hit a section of mud and rock and tree trunked it and went down hard hitting my head. If I didn't have that helmet on I'd have been in bad shape. I just have a sore neck and a headache. Overall it was a pretty fun day though. But no pictures to show.

Super Bowl/Sea World Weekend

I surfed with Bill in Del Mar after looking at PB. The tide was high, the shorebreak was pretty fun with plenty of people and closeouts but there were some peaks that were really fun. Great weather, great conditions but not necessarily the best spot to surf. We went to Sea World and saw the dolphin/whale show and the kids got to touch the starfish, bat rays, and got scared by a small shark so we moved on. We went over to my boss Mike's Superbowl party and hungout. Here are a couple of shots from yesterday and today.

Here's Riley and Evan this morning. They both really wanted to play with the sand despite it being a little muddy from the rain. They enjoyed the mud!

Riley clasping her hands. Doesn't seem like a big deal but when she did this she really enjoyed it. She's learning more and more how to use her hands and improving her motor skills as time goes on.

Riley the musician!

We got this recorder from my mom (Grandma Phelps in Melbourne, FL) and Riley is really starting to have fun blowing into it and making music. Hopefully someday she'll be able to utilize her hands and cover the holes and play some really good music.
