Scripps Surf 12/29/2006

So I surfed Scripps Pier with Ryan and Mark. We first checked 15th Street in Del Mar. It didn't look so hot but it was apparently better than it looked from the cams later in the morning. We checked the south and north sides of the pier and opted for the north side of the pier. I didn't wear booties, gloves, or a hood but it wouldn't have hurt! I took out the relatively newly shaped 7'0" rounded pintail. It's not a gun, but it's for bigger surf. Had a great time and hope to do it again Tuesday.

The Vandals at the House of Blues San Diego

Reeve Oliver opened up for the Vandals on Sunday 12/17. Reeve Oliver is a good local San Diego band. There were a lot of strange people wearing brand new untarnished punk rock jackets with patches from punk/hardcore bands from the late 70's early 80's which was amusing because half of these guys weren't even alive then. The vandals were really solid and it was a great show. It was their "winter formal" where you were supposed to dress up. I didn't dressup, but a lot of people were in suits and ties. Lots of Christmas songs were played by the Vandals and of course they played Ape Drape which is always a great one for those with the East County Mullets.

A Tribute to Greg Smith

It's coming up on almost 3 years since one of my good friends Greg Smith passed away. I went on trips to Costa Rica, Panama, and Cape Hatteras with Greg and he was a blast to travel with and a passionate good surfer. Our most memorable trips were at Pavones, Costa Rica where we seemed to always score countless perfect way overhead south swells when we'd show up....Greg was a good friend who passed away Christmas Eve of 2003. As nutty as you were Greg, you'll be missed always man. The trips and the good laughs will never be forgotten. Not to mention all of those great sessions at Greg's Left (Pet Den) and Cocoa Beach longboard sessions during the summer!

Agent Orange Show 12/2/2006

I went with my boss Mike D. to the Agent Orange Show on what used to be called Blind Melons and is now called the 701 Beach Club I think right at Crystal Pier. There was an opening band that wasn't bad, then the band Objex right before AO was really good actually. It looks like the new bass player for Agent Orange used to play for JFA I think? Anyway, I saw these guys last year and I think the original bass player has been replaced. Either Way this was a great show with lots of energy. Probably 100 people in this place and super mellow with exception to guys getting thrown out of the club because they were being too violent in the Pit. Always enjoy seeing this band. The surf/skate guitar sound is so much fun to listen to...

Yes my camera phone still sucks:

The good news is that I was about 15 feet from the stage, the bad news is that someone was smoking a cigarette inside the building right next to me illegally..Uncool...
